Abstract
243,820. Marks, E. C. R., (Worthington Pump & Machinery Corporation). Sept. 8, 1924. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel. - Air compressed by an annular projection 17 on the piston in a corresponding recess 15 in the cylinder head passes at the end of the instroke to the combustion space 13 through an annular clearance formed between the projections 17, 14. The head of the piston is concave and the combustion chamber is conical, the fuel being injected from the apex of the cone through a series of orifices 23 directed parallel to the walls of the combustion chamber. The fuel which impinges upon the piston head is carried into the combustion space 13 by the compressed air issuing from the annular space 15. The fuel injector is provided with an air relief valve 19.
