Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.- In engines in which liquid fuel is injected into a mixing chamber a into which air is compressed, and is therein ignited, passages d, e, in addition to the constricted opening c permanently open to the cylinder, are uncovered during the working stroke. The mixing and combustion chamber a may be formed in the piston, the passages d, e extending laterally into an annular passage by which they are brought into communication with the space above the piston after the working stroke has commenced. According to the Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) mixing .and combustion may take place in distinct chambers ; for instance, the mixing chamber may be on the cylinder head and the combustion chamber in the piston. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accetped.
