Abstract
405,833. Liquid - fuel injectors. HAMMER, A. A. H., and REBBECK, F. E., c/o Harland & Wolff, Queen's Island, Belfast. May 22, 1933, No. 11252. [Class 7 (iii).] To prevent the formation of carbon deposits on the tips of fuel injection devices, air is compressed into a chamber during the compression stroke of the piston and returns to the cylinder during the firing stroke across the tip of the injector. As shown in Fig. 1, air is fed from the engine cylinders through pipes K containing non-return valves H to a reservoir L where it may be cooled, and pipes M connect the reservoir with orifices arranged around the tips of the injectors E. In the construction shown in Fig. 3 a chamber N surrounding the tip of the injector E receives air through orifices W and through ports T controlled by a non-return valve U and discharges air during the firing stroke through the orifices W. In further modifications (1) the chamber N is charged and discharged through the same orifices W, the ports T and valve U being dispensed with : and (2) the orifices W are formed as an annular slot.
