[Class 7 (iii).] A pre-combustion chamber of a direct-injection oil engine is located obliquely in the cylinder head and a recess 2a is formed eccentrically in the piston so that at the end of the compression stroke the axis of the pre-combustion chamber passes through the centre of gravity of the air in the main combustion chamber 1. An ignition device 7 may be provided in the pre-combustion chamber, and a valve cover 10 protects the cylinder head and the fuel nozzle 6. Fuel leaking past the needle valve, in the nozzle is led away by a pipe 9.
