Abstract
557,740. Moistening charge. DATE, E. July 14,1942, No. 9797. [Classes 7 (ii)and 7 (iii)] In a device for supplying a moist air to the combustible mixture in the induction manifold, comprising a pipe g connecting the manifold h to the upper part of a water container a, to which air is admitted by a controllable pipe j, the pipe g is of larger bore than the pipe j in order to maintain the pressure in the container a below atmospheric. As shown, the temperature of the water in the container a is kept above freezing point by a pipe e encircling the exhaust pipe f and connected to the container at e<SP>1</SP>, e<SP>2</SP>. The pipe j has an open-ended inlet m adjacent to the exhaust manifold n and a tap k which is closed when starting the engine. The air-inlet pipe s to the carburetter has angular bends, to baffle slightly the inflow of air, and an air filter t.
