Abstract

<PICT:0363852/III/1> Light admixtures are removed from the lubricating oil of an internal-combustion engine by feeding the oil through a pipe e to a chamber d arranged within an enlargement c of the exhaust manifold a so as to be heated by the exhaust gases, and by leading a portion of the exhaust gases through a perforated pipe g so as to bubble up through the oil and carry away the volatilized admixtures through a pipe h to the engine intake. The regenerated oil returns to the engine through a pipe f and a cooler i. The temperature in the chamber is maintained constant by a thermostat t which controls either the flow through the pipe e or the admission of exhaust gases. Alternatively, the chamber d may be arranged within a casing connected to the exhaust manifold.
