Abstract
509,481. Heating and cooling lubricant for internal-combustion engines. BRANDENBURGISCHE MOTORENWERKE GES. Oct. 8, 1937, No. 27392. Void. Convention date, Oct. 8, 1936. [Class 12 (iii)] A heat-exchanger 8 which can be subjected either to the hot gases from the engine 2, or to cold air, is inserted in the lubricant system of an internal-combustion engine 2. As shown, an oil pump 3 draws lubricant from a reservoir 1 through pipes 12, 13, heat-exchanger 8, pipes 14, 15, and delivers it to the engine 2. A scavenging pump 4 returns the oil from the engine through a cooler 10 to the oil reservoir 1. An additional cooler 38 may be used and then if the parts are arranged as shown, the heatexchanger acts as a flame destroyer for the exhaust gases. The cooler 10 and exchanger 8 have bye-passes 19, 18. The throttles 7, 6, 11, and the valves controlling the direction of flow of the oil in the system may be operated automatically by a temperature sensitive apparatus. In a modification the pipe 17 is connected directly to the pipe 13, and in another modification the pump 3 is positioned between the reservoir 1 and the exchanger 8.
