Abstract

469,826. Vaporizers. HEADEN, L. A. Feb. 3, 1936, No. 3187. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (iii)] A rich mixture of heavy oil and air formed in a chamber a<6> surrounding the exhaust pipe a<1> is led through a straight or curved tube b extending through the exhaust pipe and discharged into the induction manifold f, where it mixes with the main volume of air,.preferably after passing through a hot box e on the exhaust manifold a. The mixing chamber a<6> may be formed around the exhaust pipe in a recessed part of the exhaust manifold. At starting the engine is run on petrol and the rich mixture is cut off by a cock b<1>. Exhaust gases for use as an anti-detonant are supplied through a pipe j controlled by a valve. To clean the engine cylinders, the engine is run on petrol and water supplied to the float chamber c or steam from the radiator introduced into the induction pipe. The float chamber and /or mixing chamber or jets may be heated electrically.
