Abstract

408,601. Spray carburetters. SEARLS, E. C., Seyssel Street, Cubitt Town, London. Oct. 7, 1932, No. 28026. [Class 7 (iii).] To heat the mixing chamber, exhaust gases are led through a pipe or conduit 2a to an annular space 6 disposed between a Venturi tube 4 and its housing 3, and the gases enter the mixing chamber through apertures 7 in the tube, arranged at the point of emission of fuel from the jet 5. The apertures may be arranged radially, or as arcuatelyshaped passages to impart a spinning motion to the gases in the mixing- chamber. At starting, petrol is supplied from a float chamber 14 through a valve 11 and a tube a to a starting-jet 10, and the supply of exhaust gases may be cut off. During normal running, the valve 11 is turned to supply heavy fuel from a float chamber 13 to the jets 10, 5. The valve 11 may be arranged so that the petrol flows at starting, both to the jet 10 and to the float chamber 13. The inlet manifold may be heated either by casting it integral with the exhaust manifold, or by arranging it alongside the exhaust manifold and surrounding the manifolds with an asbestos wrapping.
