Abstract

510,040. Vaporizers. COSTIN, D. May 20, 1938, No. 15091. Convention date, May 22, 1937. [Class 7 (iii)] Heavy oil from a jet 7 is mixed with air admitted through orifices 9 and delivered through a nozzle 11 on to a tube 13 of catalytic material which is heated by exhaust gases from a manifold 2. The catalyst consists of irradiated nickel which may be copperized. The mixture passes through a venturi tube 15 and is ignited by the flame of the exhaust gases admitted through an annulus 14. The flame is extinguished by a gauze 16 and the mixture is delivered through a pipe 17 into the main air stream in the induction pipe 45. A valve 26 regulating the fuel supply to the jet 7 is controlled simultaneously with the throttle valve 21. A light fuel carburetter 30 is used at starting and water may be admitted through the pipe 24 with the fuel.
