Abstract

491,944. Lubricating internal - combustion engines. CLAUDEL, A. Dec. 7, 1936, No. 33568. Void. Convention date, Dec. 5, 1935. [Class 12 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVH] Water, lubricating-oil, fuel, anti-detonating or other liquid is introduced into the charge. As shown in Fig. I, a chamber 10 is supplied with water from a floatchamber 7 and with air drawn through a pipe 16 and past a suctionactuated ball valve 14. A valve 9 connected to the carburetter throttle valve 23 through a lost-motion device controls the delivery, from the chamber 10, into an exhaust-heated manifold 2 through a passage 11 surrounded by an exhaust jacket 5. If lubricating oil is supplied it may be delivered to the charge through the wall of the engine cylinder and a non-return valve may be provided in the passage 11. The water may be delivered to the chamber 10 through a jet 12 or past a valve controlled by a thermally sensitive device. In a modified construction, Fig. 4, a valve 29 having a central air passage 13 3 and controlled by a thermally sensitive device regulates the quantity of water supplied from a floatchamber 7 to the passage 11.
