Abstract
414,269. Supplying steam; regulating. MINGEROET, W. VAN, 13, Rue du Heron, Gand, Belgium. Dec. 4, 1933, No. 34085. [Classes 7 (ii) and 7 (vi).] Apparatus for supplying steam to the combustion space of an internalcombustion engine comprises an exhaust-heated steam generator to which water is supplied by an automatic floatcontrolled valve. Water from a tank 13a is supplied by a float control 14 to the inlet 15 of a steam generator, comprising a chamber 5 formed with water passages 19, 21, Fig. 4, and traversed by the exhaust gases, which enter at 9 and leave at 12. The inlet 15 opens into a space 16 below a partition 17, the water passing through the lower passages 19 to an opposite end space 22, and the steam then flowing through the upper passages 21 to a space 23 above the partition 17. An exit 24 for the steam is connected by a pipe 3 to the induction pipe 2. A valve 4 is provided to control the supply of steam and is operated in conjunction with the throttle control of the mixture supply. Air may be admitted to the chamber 22 through an opening 26; but if steam is produced in excess of the requirements of the engine, a quantity will escape through the opening 26.
