Abstract

212,669. Pickard, W. Dec. 22, 1922. Spray carburettors in which steam as well as fuel is admitted to the nozzle, are arranged so that the water supply to the steam generator. the steam supply, and the fuel supply are all controlled simultaneously by the accelerator lever; the fuel supply to the slow-running nozzle may also be controlled by the same lever. As shown in. Figs. 4 and 5 the nozzle is supplied with either steam from a pipe 12 or fuel from a pipe 14 according to the position of a cock 16, having two passages. the steam passing up a coiled pipe 17 and the fuel up a vertical pipe. These pipes are heated bv exhaust gas circulating through a chamber 25 by pipes 26, 27. The cock 16 is rotatied in conjunction with the throttle valve 22 from a rod 23 through levers 21, 18. The spindle of the throttle valve also carries an arm 37 which rotates a cock 34 and so closes the fuel supply to the slow-running nozzle 33 when the throttle is opened. The supply of air, to form the slow-running mixture, is regulated by the hand-actuated valve 42, and the fuel may be heated by an electrically heated coil inside a cylindrical chamber 39. The main air supply is regulated by a sleeve 44 which can be rotated by a rod 46 to uncover ports 43. The steam is generated by the exhaust gas which circulates around a series of indented tubes in a casing 1, water being fed by a pipe 7 from a tank 6 past a cock 8 which is controlled from the rod 23 by a lever 24. A pipe 30 allows the pressure of the exhaust gas to act on the surface of the water in the tank 6. The steam passes through a nozzle and a water trap 10 to the pipe 12.
