Abstract

221,656. Pickard, W. Oct. 6, 1923. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor e is provided with a main fuel nozzle supplied from a float chamber c through a pipe c<1> controlled by a cock d, and with a steam nozzle supplied through a pipe f, the generation and supply of the steam being controlled from the accelerator. Water from a tank i passes through a cock k and pipe j to a steam generator located in the exhaust manifold h, the steam passing to a steam chest g provided with a relief valve g<2>, and a pressure-operated spring-lc aded outlet valve g<1> controlling a series of small ports opening into the pipe f. The cock k and valve g<2> are operated respectively through levers q, m, on a shaft n, which is connected bv a lever n<1> and link o<1> to a bell-crank lever operated by the accelerator pedal, the arrangement being such that the cook k is closed, and the valve g<2> open, when the throttle is closed. The fuel valve d also may be interconnected witn the throttle valve. Pressure is maintained on the water in the reservoir i by air supplied by a compressor l driven from the propeller shaft. The steam generator may be a tubular fitting located axially in the exhaust manifold, and filled with iron filings.
