Abstract

122,073. Erikson, G. March 6, 1918. Spray carburettors.-The space above the fuel in the float chamber is in communication with the induction pipe between the throttle valve and the engine, and also with the outside air through a valve which is connected to and moved in accordance with the throttle valve. Air entering at 9, 10 passes to the induction pipe 13 through the throttle valve 12, above which is a passage 15 leading to the top of the float chamber 1, and containing the fuel nozzle 18 fed through a conduit 17. The top of the float chamber communicates with the outside air through a valve 20 connected by linkages 21, 22, 23 to the throttle valve 12. The valve 20 is opened as the throttle is opened and vice versa. A small opening 24 controlled by a screw valve 25 is provided to regulate the pressure in the float chamber at low speeds. The depression in the float chamber is sufficient to raise the fuel from a tank at a lower level. The nozzle 18 may discharge directly into the induction pipe. The float levers 3 bear at 28, intermediate their fulcra 26 and free ends 27, against collars 29 on the fuel valve.
