Abstract
16,396. Higginson, J., and Arundel, H. Nov. 20. Vacuum apparatus.- In suction-actuated liquidfuel supply apparatus wherein float - actuated valves control the suction and the supply of air to the auxiliary or service tank, both the suction and air control valves are actuated by the float through a single. lever provided with a balance weight which just keeps the suction valve closed and the air valve open when the float is inoperative, so that when the throttle valve is opened to accelerate the engine, the suction valve is momentarily opened and a further supply of fuel is drawn from the main tank. The general arrangement of parts is similar to that described in Specifications 12,835/11 and 20,191/14, and comprises a chamber b from which fuel is discharged into a surrounding chamber c, whence it passes to the carburettor through the pipe u. The chamber b communicates with the main fuel tank and with the engine induction pipe, between the throttle valve and the engine, through the pipes a, f respectively. A pipe m leads to atmosphere. The suction and air control valves g, ware actuated by the float h through the lever v provided with a counterbalance x, which, when the float is not acting on the lever, tends to keep the valve g closed and valve w open. The pipe f may be connected to any suitable source of suction, such as a pump.
