Abstract

8280. Woodland, W. April 6. Carburetting.-In a carburettor for internalcombustion engines, air is drawn in through a tube C and passes through ports F in a piston valve E and through a chamber D and slots L and under a baffle M to fuel maintained at constant level in a chamber B by means of a float A. The carburetted air passes through a gauze dome I to the induction pipe K. The valve E may be raised so as to bring the ports F more or less into register with ports G leading into the upper part of the chamber B in order to adjust the quality of the gas. A hole is formed in the pipe C above the fuel level as an overflow and for the purpose of flooding, and a throttle may be placed within the carburettor at the month of the opening K or between the carburettor and engine.
