Abstract

322,401. Higginson, J. Feb. 21, 1929 Spray carburettors.-The casburettor is of the type in which suction is transmitted to the top of the float chamber to raise fuel thereto from a tank at a lower leved. The mixing chamber h is provided with a throttle valve i, and with a suction-actuated air valve o pivoted out of centre on an axle p in order that it may be opened by suction. The movements of the air valve are damped either by a weight, or by a spring- loaded piston q in a cylinder. r. The float chamber a is fed through an inlet b provided with a Boat-actuated valve c, and the fuel is delivered through a pipe e to the throats of Venturi tubes f, g provided respectively for normal and slowrunning. Suction is transmitted to the top of the float chamber through a pipe k terminating in a Venturi m, and a valve n is adapted to admit air to prevent the vacuum from becoming excessive. The air flow through the Venturi f is controlled by a member u connected by a link t to the air valve o. The air supply to this Venturi is varied by a perforated ring 3 connected through linkage 2, z, y to the spindle of the throttle valve i. The slow-running Venturi passage g contains a spring-loaded plug v which closes the passage when the suction falls below a predetermined value, but the plug may be displaced either by hand through a lever 7, or from the throttle, spindle through a cam 5 and lever 6 to open the Venturi when desired. The fuel flow to the Venturi tubes is controlled by a valve j. The member u may be controlled from the throttle-valve spindle x. Specifications 100,273 and 133,289 are referred to.
