Abstract

222,901. Royce, F. H. April 14, 1923. Spray carburettors.-In a carburettor having a fuel nozzle <e> provided with a head e<31> having several orifices e<32> supplied with aerated fuel, the submerged fuel inlet e<IV> is controlled by a suction. actuated grooved valve e<2>, and the passage through the carburettor from the air inlet a<1> to the mixture outlet c is controlled by a suctionactuated choke tube d<11>, which seats on the head e<31> of the nozzle. The choke tube d<11> is carried bv a sleeve d provided with mixture outlet ports d<10> opening into the throttle chamber b<5>, and enlarged at the top to form a piston d<1> working in a casing b<2>. The piston d<1> is provided with an annular groove d<3>, ports d<4>, and a hole d<5>, and is closed by a diaphragm d<2> carrying a rod e<5> to which the fuel valve e<2> is attached by a tube e<4>, and ball-and-socket joints. In operation, suction is transmitted from the throttle chamber b<5> through ports d<9>, d<5>, and also through ports d<4>, groove d<3>, and the clearance between the piston d<1> and the casing b<2>, to the space above the piston, which is lifted bv the air pressure acting through holes b<22>, carrying with it the fuel valve and choke tube. To effect a hand control of the fuel, a valve-controlled conduit mav connect the throttle and float chambers, or the outer sleeve e<3> of the nozzle may be adjustable through a manually-operated pinion g engaging teeth on the sleeve.
