Abstract

240,392. Hutchison, H. June 9, 1925. Spray carburettors.-The mixing-chamber 2 is provided at the bottom with angularly disposed vanes 5 situated slightly below the outlet of the main fuel nozzle 4, and is provided on the outside with spiral vanes 8, the vanes 5 and 8 being arranged so that the primary air current drawn through the chamber 2 and the secondary air current passing between the chamber 2 and the body 1 gyrate in opposite directions. The chamber 2 is provided with a tapering mouth 6 which may be provided with slots 13. A choke tube 9 is situated above the chamber 2 and is adjustable to control the secondary air. The slow-running nozzle 22 is provided with vanes 23 similar to the vanes 5, the air supply thereto passing through inclined ports situated in the body below the vanes. The fuel supply may be controlled by a float chamber, or by a plug cock operated from a distance through worm gearing and having a tapered port communicating with a passage leading to the nozzle. The air inlet 12 may be controlled by a valve 37 provided with ports 41, the arm on the valve being adjustably connected to the arm on the throttle valve 36.
