Spray carburettors.- In a carburettor of the kind described in Specification 124,061, the nozzle b, which discharges into the branch air passage c opening laterally into the main air passage i, is utilized as a main nozzle, and a pilot nozzle d is provided for delivering mixture into the main passage on the engine side of the throttle valve. The main and pilot nozzles b, d are removably mounted in chambers in a body a attached to a seat a<1> on the outer end of a fixed ported sleeve a<2>; the sleeve a<2> surrounds the primary air passage c and contains a. ported air valve carried by the barrel throttle valve f. The pilot nozzle d receives fuel from a conduit d<3> branched from the main supply conduit e<2>, and comprises a calibrated nipple at the bottom of a plug d<2> which is provided with a central air inlet passage, and with mixture outlet ports d<6> opening into an annular space d<7> surrounding the base of the nozzle; this space communicates through an external conduit e with an annular or sector-shaped passage g formed in the throttle valve or throttle valve casing, from which the mixture is supplied to a passage h in the throttle valve, the delivery port h<1> of this passage opening into the main passage when the throttle is closed. Additional pilot delivery ports h<1> may be provided in the throttle valve, which ports come into action on the initial opening of the valve.
