Abstract

222,610. Dodson, E. July 30, 1923. Spray carburettors.-To avoid defects in the mixture during the change-over from the slowrunning to the main fuel supply, the butterfly throttle valve A, Fig. 1, has a passage B therethrough which, in the closed position of the valve, registers with the outlet of the pilot nozzle C, and also a passage D communicating with passage B and extending through the wing to the leading edge of the valve. To permit of the valve being moved to the fully open position, a grove A<6> is formed in the other throttle wing to accommodate the nozzle C. The passage B may be controlled bv a screwed valve E in the throttle spindle. In a modification, Fig. 4, a shroud A<4> slotted at A' may be provided to concentrate the suction on the nozzle outlet. In further modifications the pilot nozzle (1) enters the induction passage laterally and is fed from a well supplied from a submerged nozzle, (2) receives its supply from a perforated tube J, Fig. 7, passing through the main nozzle L, an air leak being provided by forming a flat on an adjustable screw N and (3) is inclined diagonally across the induction passage.
