Abstract

166,587. David, G. July 23, 1919. Spray carburettors.-The nozzle 11 is provided with a bulbous head 12 containing fuel ports 13<1> and arranged within the most contracted portion 13 of a perforated choke tube 9. Secondary air is admitted through a pipe 1 and the perforations 10 m the choke tube. The pipe 1 may be tapering and provided with a suction-actuated valve 4 the flaps 2, 3 of which are of unequal size, or the pipe may be cylindrical, in which case the Haps 2, 3 are not in the plane of the axis of the spindle. The valve 4 is loaded by a weight 6, the effect of which is augmented on an up-grade. In a modification, the nozzle is provided with a tube 38, Fig. 3, which in conjunction with an adjustable pipe 41 passing through the throttle valve, acts as a pilot jet when the throttle is closed. In a further modification, the portion 42 of the tube 38 is dispensed with and a tube integral with the fuel metering plug 42<1> extends within the nozzle. The butterfly throttle valve may be replaced by a plug valve provided with a cross-tube or with a V-shaped passage in its wall for slow-running mixture. In either form of throttle valve the slow-running passage may be controlled by a needle valve 45. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 1391/06 and 10859/07.
