Abstract

196,197. Wirsum, C. May 16, 1922. Spray carburettors. - The carburettor has a nozzle 23 for idle running, a nozzle 24 for running at medium loads and a nozzle 25 for heavy loads. Between the nozzles and the float chamber 5 is an auxiliary well consisting of a tubular member 7 with a Venturi outlet 8 from the throat of which holes 14 of different sizes radiate. By rotating the tube any of the holes may be brought opposite the outlet 15 from the float chamber. The annular space 11 between the tube and the surrounding casing is in communication with the atmosphere at 12, with the top of the float chambers at 13 and with the interior of the tube 7 through aperture 18 in the wall thereof and any one of a number of radial holes 17 in an adjustable plug 16 in the upper end of the tube. The tube and plug have. adjusting heads 19, 20 secured by a square hoLe or clip 21 on a spring 22. A valve 46 admits additional air. At starting fuel issues through the central orifice 34 of nozzle 24, through tube 37 and passage 30 to nozzle 23. On further opening the throttle, fuel issues from orifices 35 of nozzle 24 to mix with air entering through the Venturi 32. The nozzle 25 comes into action only at full throttle opening, the mixture of air and fuel which is supplied to the nozzle from the Venturi 8 being given a whirling motion by a helical member 45.
