Abstract

222,797. Juhasz, J. July 24, 1923. Spray carburettors. - The carburettor comprises several - carburetting chambers all controlled by a common throttle valve and each chamber has a separate nozzle the bore of which increases towards its outlet end and communicates through orifices at different levels with a surrounding tube the fuel level in which falls as the suction increases to admit more air through the orifices. The carburetting chambers 3 - 6 are controlled by the throttle valve 10, receive air from an inlet 2 and each contains a nozzle 7. The nozzle comprises a central flanged tube 11, Fig. 3, the bore of which decreases downwardly step-by-step, each step communicating through an orifice 21 with the space formed by a surrounding tube 14. A cap 15 screwed to the tube 11 extends downwardly over a substantial part of the tube 14. The nozzles are held in place by plugs 20 and gaskets 17, and the inlets to those in the chambers 3, 6 are controlled by needle valves 9. The orifices 21, Fig. 4, are at different heights in the several nozzles and the combined effect of the steps in the bores is that of a single nozzle 25, Fig. 4, of conical bore the active section of which decreases as the suction increases. At starting, the tube 14 is full of fuel and the orifices 21 are closed. but as the suction increases the fuel level falls, uncovering the orifices 21 and admitting air to tube 11 from the mouth of the cap 15. Only one of the carburetting chambers is in action at low speeds.
