Abstract
200,978. Were, E. J. May 23, 1922. Addition to 193,612. Spray carburettors. - The Parent Specification describes a carburettor in which the main fuel jet m communicates through bifurcating passages f, g with a main and a regulating fuel orifice c, d on the engine and air inlet sides respectively of a butterfly throttle valve b. According to the invention, (1) the main jet is protected from dynamic action of the air current by a gauze or perforated shield, cone or cap o, and (2) is surrounded by a chamber e open to the atmosphere at v for the same purpose. (3) The passage g is made larger than the passage f to diminish the suction on the fuel in closed-throttle positions and (4) the orifice d is larger than the orifice c to effect the same object. Radial holes q are formed in the cap o close to the seat of a needle valve n which controls the fuel flow. The chamber e is formed in a part t screwed on to a plug j and secured by a union u which permits of a swivel connection between carburettor and float chamber.
