Abstract

173,038. Bench, B. Sept. 16, 1920. Spray carburettors. -In a floatless carburettor, a manuallyactuated tubular valve b is adapted to slide in a casing a to control air-inlet ports t at the bottom thereof and a mixture outlet port at the top. The valve is actuated by a Bowden cable attached to a bridgepiece c. The nozzle n is closed when no suction occurs by a valve j, a conical needle-like extension o of which works in conjunction with an adjustable constricted passage. The valve carries a fibre washer h or a gauze cap and is extended to pass through the bridge c and the cover e, the extension being arranged to strike the head of an adjustable screw f to limit the lift of the valve. Between the bridge c and washer h are a closely wound coil k and the spring l, and between the bridge and cover e, a spring d and a coil w closely wound around the valve extension to act as a stop. Extra air ports at y allow air only to pass to the engine. At starting, the throttle is raised to contact with stop w to lift the valve and flood the carburettor; the throttle is then returned to half close the outlet port u when the washer h and fuel valve are lifed by the air current. Fuel enters at p, a split ring m secures the outlet v to the induction pipe, and the fuel inlet chamber is secured by a gland nut r.
