Abstract

159,238. Hushes, H. I., and Hughes, D. A. Sept. 11, 1919. Spray carburettors.-A rich mixture or emulsion is formed in a branch Y to the main air passage 2 of a carburettor, the fuel being sprayed from opposed jets X, X<1> at a constricted part of the branch. The amount of fuel is controlled by two needle valves 10 worked together from a lay shaft V through links and oppositely-handed screws n<3>. The fuel enters the float chamber through the filter D and radial holes in the nut r<2>; it flows to an annular passage, y<6> around the jets through the duct E, filter d<4> and channel C. The float valve may be held down by a spring attached to the float chamber by the screw 7. The mixture throttle has two notches G, H, which form a by-pass for starting up with the throttle closed, a screw L being used to adjust the amount of passage through the notch H; in a modification the outlet of the branch Y projects into this notch. A spring- pressed throttle Q is used to close the main air passage at starting. The Provisional Specification states that the mixture throttle and the fuel valves may be controlled conjointly.
