Abstract

281,027. Wade, H., (Thelma Carburator Co. Soc. Anon.). Aug. 31, 1926. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor is of the type in which the fuel needle-valve is connected to a suction-actuated air valve, and comprises a fuel inlet 13, controlled by a valve 14, and leading to a nozzle element 10 which contains a spring-loaded ball valve 15 for separating the fuel inlet from a chamber 18 having a pilot nozzle 19. and a needle valve 20 - 22 for controlling the fuel flow to main orifices 11. The needle valve is connected to a, suction-actuated air inlet valve 24 which normally rests on a spring buffer 29, and the air inlet is flared both inwardly and outwardly at 27, 28. The pilot nozzle 19 faces a tube 31, which communicates through passages 32, 33 with the induction passage 34 on the engine side of the throttle valve 35. The initial lifting of the valve 24 by suction opens the valve 15 and permits an excess of fuel to flow to the chamber 18 and pilot nozzle 19, but the cylindrical part 20 of the needle valve cuts off the fuel to the orifices 11. On the valve being lifted further, the conical part 21 allows fuel to flow in increasing amount to these orifices. Should a. back-fire occur, damage is prevented by the valve 15 being closed, and also by the valve 24 being forced beyond its seating into the flaned portion 28 so as to provide an outlet for the gases. Additional air is admitted through apertures 40 controlled by an apertured ring 38 actuated from the throttle valve spindle by a slotted arm 43 and a pin 44.
