Abstract

168,503. Haider, C. July 28, 1920. Spray carburettors. -In a floatless carburettor having a combined air and fuel valve, the valve body 9 closes the fuel nozzle 6 by means of a core formed at the bottom of a shallow recess from which ducts 12 lead through the valve, so that when the valve is slightly lifted, fuel is sprayed by air passing through the ducts 12. The valve 9 controls the air supply through a Venturi tube 11 having a, short cylindrical part 10 of the same diameter as the valve. In the form shown, the valve 9 is actuated by means of a lever 19 and a shaft 18 having an arm connected to the valve by a link 17. A needle valve 8 carried by the valve 9 regulates the outlet from the nozzle 6 and a restriction 7 within the nozzle. The stem 16 of the valve carries a piston valve 14 sliding over triangular secondary air ports 15, around which is a ring 20 adjusted by hand and having inclined series of air ports 21 adapted to register more or less with the ports 15. In a modification, the ring 14 is fcrmed with a conical base and with ports above and below the base, so that the mixture can pass into and from an annular enlargement of the casing 1 when the ring 14 is raised. The valve 9 is arranged to open slightly under suction at starting, the stem being in two parts with a pin-andslot connection and a spring for normally holding the pin at one end of the slot.
