Abstract

170,104. Lamb, E. P., and Bird, J. July 12, 1920. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor comprises a fuel port 40 supplied with light fuel at starting by means of a movable tube 35, which is immersed in fuel at its lower end when an airinlet valve 37 is closed and lifted out of the fuel when the air-valve is opened. The tube 35 is supplied from a well 34 connected to a float chamber 29, and has a collar 39 acted upon by an arm 38 on the air-valve and by a spring 36. The upper end of the tube slides in a passage 45 in a plug 46, and when the tube is depressed the upper end is in communication with the port 40. The air supply enters the mixing-chamber 24<a> through ports 25 and past a suction-actuated valve 22 provided with radial'fuel ducts, which are closed when the valve is on its seat 24. The hollow stem 16 of the valve has a constriction 17 controlled by a hand-adjusted needle valve 18, and terminates in a dash-pot piston 14 having a perforation 13 and working in a fuel chamber 12. Heavy fuel for normal running is supplied to the chamber 12 from a float chamber 1 through ports 6, a conical space 7, and ducts 11, and is heated by exhaust gases admitted to a chamber 9<a> by a valve 10.
