Abstract

Actuating-mechanism ; lift valves; piston valves.-In an internal-combustion engine, air is admitted to the induction pipe by a nozzle 22, Fig. 2, having a conical bore 27 forming a seating for a slidable valve member 32, 34. The valve is normally closed by a. spring 38 and is opened by means of a spindle 39 having an arm 40 engaging a slotted yoke member 36 on the valve stem. The spindle 39 may be connected by an adjustable arm 45 to a link 47 pivotally connected to a pedal 48. In a modification, Fig. 4, the valve 53 is placed at the entry to the air pipe 10<b>, which is connected to a valveless nozzle 51 entering the induction pipe 14. The valve 53 has a conical end 54 working on a corresponding seat, and controls air-admission ports 55. The valve stem 59 is connected to a resilient arm 56 secured at 57 to the dash-board and connected adjustably to a pedal 65.
