203,767. Livens, F. H., and Ruston & Hornsby, Ltd. June 12, 1922. Valves; valve gear.-In a four-stroke engine having liquid fuel injected into the combination chamber, for example by an atomizer d as described in Specifications 20582/09 and 9382/15, [both in Class 7 (iii), Internal-combustion engines, Carburetting-apparatus &c. for], a single poppet valve e serves for both exhaust at r and air inlet at s, these being further controlled by a slide valve l, Fig. 1, or a double-beat valve 5, Fig. 3. The valve e is actuated by a lever f, and the valve l by a lever 6, from the same overhead cam shaft, the valve l being raised by springs p. The lever y, Fig. 3, for actuating the doublebeat valve 5 has a forked end engaging a collar z by which the movement is transmitted to the valve stem through springs 1, 2, which ensure the engagement of the valve with its seats v, w. Specification 2380/07 is also referred to.
