Abstract

4754. Soc. Anon. des Automobiles Delaunay-Belleville. May 15,1914, [Convention date]. Spray carburettors.-The carburettor comprises a central conduit 1 fitted with a diffuser 7, 7<1> into which the main fuel nozzle 8 projects, branch pipes 2 leading to the engine cylinders, passages 10 into which open nozzles of wick-carburettors for starting and slow running, and a piston valve 28 working in the conduit 1 and controlling the communication between the pipes 1, 2 and, by means of the groove 32, that between the passages 10 and pipes 2. There is, in addition, a suction-actuated air valve 17 admitting air to the mouth of conduit 1 by way of apertures 25 and the annular space 3 between the conduit 1 and a tubular member 4. This valve comprises a disk 17 moving vertically so as to leave a peripheral space of varying amount between it and the wall of a fixed member 16. The disk 17 is rigid with a rod 19 having a seat 21 for a closing-spring 23 and a damping-piston 27 working in the fixed cylinder 14. The piston valve 28, with its guide-member 29, is adapted to be raised by the crank 30 against the action of a spring 33. It closes both the passages 10 and the passage 1 ; on its first upward movement, the passages 10 open and then close when the passage 1 is opened.
