Abstract
308,191. Ricardo, H. R. Dec. 19, 1927. Spray carburettors. - In engines wherein a rich mixture is drawn into the cylinder during the first part of the suction stroke, the further air required for combustion entering thereafter, the rich mixture is formed in a carburettor or in a separate spraying device for each cylinder. In the latter case the liquid fuel is fed to a well G<3> in each device, the well connecting to the nozzle G<5> and open to the air admission passage J. Long pipes J' with flared ends are connected to the admission passages to prevent blowing back of rich mixture into the engine room &c. when the pressure within the cylinders rises. Liquid fuel to the supply pipes H is controlled by a valve H<2> in the service pipe H<1>; this valve is interconnected with throttles F in the air pipes so that the fuel may be in part cut off before the air supply is decreased. A dashpot connection is shown for this purpose; a spring K<2> tends to move the valves to their full open position.
