Abstract

Spray carburettors.-Combustible mixture for starting an engine, is supplied by means of an auxiliary spray carburettor 13 supplied with air by a compressor 2 and connected to the engine cylinders bv a distributing valve. The compressor 2 may be driven by an auxiliary internal-combustion engine. 1 In one form, Fig. 1, a singlestage compressor 2 is connected through an air reservoir 10 and a cock 5 to the space around the fuel nozzle 13 and also to the space above the fuel in the container 12, which has an inlet 15 and overflow 16 controlled by a cock 17, or may have a float-controlled inlet valve. The cocks 5, 17 may be connected so that one is open when the other is closed, and vice versa. The outlet from the carburettor is connected to a rotary distributing valve mounted upon the engine. In modifications, Fig. 6 and 8, the carburettor and the distributing valve 26 are both mounted on the engine and are connected to the compressor by a pipe provided with a valve. In further forms, a two stage compressor is employed, having a stepped piston and cylinder, two cylinders side by side, or two cylinders in tandem. The highpressure stage is connected to the space around the fuel nozzle of the carburettor and the lowpressure stage to the float chamber and to the space around a second nozzle surrounding the fuel nozzle.
