Abstract
249,766. Viet, P. Sept. 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Starting.-Combustible mixture for starting an engine is supplied from an auxiliary internal-combustion engine through a valve-controlled passage during the compression period of the auxiliary engine. As shown in Fig. 1, an auxiliary four-stroke engine 1 is provided with cam-actuated inlet and exhaust valves 2, 3 and a cam-actuated valve 4 opened during part of the compression stroke to admit mixture past a spring-loaded valve 7 to a pipe 10 leading to the engine to be started. A two-stroke engine with or without pump cylinders may alternatively be used. The mixture from the engine 1 may be enriched by connecting the pipe 10 at 14, Fig. 2, to a,n auxiliary carburettor 12 having a spraying-nozzle 15 in the outlet 16. A cock 13 between the carburettors 11, 12 can be opened when charging with fuel. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the auxiliary carburettor 18 has nozzles 20, 21. part of the mixture, passing around the nozzle 20 and through the nozzle 21, and part passing through a spring-loaded valve 22 and around the nozzle 21. A cock corresponding to 13, Fig. 2, serves to connect the two carburettors to a filling pipe 25, or to connect the upper part of the carburettor 18 to the atmosphere through a passage 26.
