Abstract

338,560. Kjaer, V. A. Aug. 21, 1929. Four-stroke-cycle engines.- In an engine wherein a charge of air under pressure is admitted for scavenging and at the end of the suction stroke a single valve controls both the admission of air from the atmosphere and the air under pressure, this valve being moved with the cylinder admission valve 2. During its downward movement air under pressure from the pipe 9 is admitted at the end of the exhaust stroke to scavenge the cylinder; on further movement ports 5, 8 and a lower set of the ports 7 with upper ports 5 coincide to admit air at atmosphere pressure from the pipe 11. At the end of the opening movement the pipe 11 is shut off and the final charge is admitted from the pressure pipe 9. The time of opening of the ports to atmosphere overlaps the opening of the pressure and supply ports.
