Abstract
236,796. Rogers, F. H., (Senkra Motoren- Ges.). Nov. 10, 1924. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Regulating by changing from fourstroke to two-stroke working. The engine is provided with inlet valve 3, exhaust valve 2, transfer passages 5, inlet pipe 11 from carburettor, and air-inlet pipe 23 leading to crank case. For four-stroke working, the cam shaft 16 is adjusted so that the valves 2, 3 work in the usual sequence, and a flap valve 25 connecting the pipes 11 and 23 is closed. On the suction stroke, mixture first enters through the valve 3, and afterwards air is transferred from the crank case through the passages 5. The exhaust valve is timed to open sufficiently early on the firing stroke to allow the cylinder pressure to fall to that in the crank case before the transfer passages 5 are uncovered to admit air for scavenging. For two-stroke working, the flap 25 is opened, and the cam shaft is moved axiallv so that the inlet valve is put out of action and the exhaust valve is opened by another cam at everv revolution. Mixture from the pipe 11 and air from the pipe 23 are together drawn into the crank case. Further regulation during fourstroke working is obtained by throttles 10 and 12 provided in the pipes 23 and 11 respectively. A valve actuated from the cam shaft may be provided in the pipe 23 to admit scavening-air to the crank case when the throttle 10 is closed.
