511,505. Valve gear ; regulating. BARBAROU, M. J.-B. Feb. 18, 1938, No. 5081. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1937. [Class 7 (vi)] In two-stroke engines, loss of air during scavenging is reduced by throttling the delivery of the compressor, the throttle being automatically opened for charging after the exhaust ports have closed. The compressor 14 supplies air to the cylinder through a pipe 12 and sleeve-valve part 10, the supply being throttled at 15 while the exhaust port 23 is open for scavenging. When the exhaust port closes, the cylinder pressure is communicated by a port 11 in the sleeve valve to a piston 18, which opens the throttle 15 to allow a full supply of air for charging.
