Abstract
305,52,3. Buchi, A. Feb. 5, 1928, [Convention date] . Four-stroke engines; pumps.-A gas engine is charged with air and gas by separate compressors an exhaust turbine actuating the air compressor whilst the engine drives the gas compressor. As shown in Fig. 1, a gas engine actuates a rotary gas compressor 3 which delivers into an engine supply pipe 6 the delivery pressure being controlled by a valve 5 subject to the pressure in an air supply 7 and leading to a bye-pass 34 connected to the suction side of the gas compressor. Air is supplied to the pipe 7 by a compressor 10 driven from an exhaust turbine 14 to which gases are fed from the engine by pipes 12, 13. Valves 9, 16 may be opened to place the air and exhaust pipes in communication with the atmosphere. Cylinder air and gas admission ports 20, 21 are controlled by a sleeve 23 carried by a lift valve 18, the ports being timed so that the gas supply (1) commences after the termination of the scavenging air supply or (2) is cut off before the termination of the air supply. The pressure of the gas supply may exceed, equal or be less than that of the aid supply and the Specification states that the component parts are designed so that under all load conditions the pressure of the exhaust gases is at a definite ratio to the air supply pressure. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the exhaust pressure may be equal to or higher than the air pressure. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
