Abstract

482,806. Convertible gas and Diesel engines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.-GES. Nov. 1, 1937, No. 29841. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1936. [Class 7 (ii)] An engine convertible for use as a gas engine or a Diesel engine, when working as the former, is first supplied with scavenging-air, then draws in a charge of gas, and is finally supercharged with further compressed air, while when working as the latter, the charge of gas is replaced by one of atmospheric air. The Figure shows the inlet valve 1, 2 controlling ports 3, 5, the former of which is connected to the compressed-air supply 7, while the latter is connected either to the gas supply 8 or to the atmosphere at 9 by means of a valve 10.
