Abstract

469,392. Regulating. ARNOTT, E. H. Jan. 17, 1936, No. 1585. [Class 7 (vi)] In a supercharging system for engines wherein fuel or a rich mixture is injected at some point between the supercharger and the engine, the amount of air supplied is automatically controlled in accordance with the pressure on the delivery side of the supercharger. The Figure shows a supercharger 1 supplying air to the engine, the pressure on the delivery side being led by a pipe 5 to a piston throttle valve 6 in the inlet to the supercharger. In a modification, the delivery pressure acts on a byepass valve, returning air to the atmosphere or to the inlet side. A hand adjustment may be provided of the loading on the valve 6 or the byepass valve.
