Abstract
611,050. Regulating. JALBERT, J. H. July 12, 1945, No. 17870. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1943. [Class 7 (iii) and 7 (vi)] In an engine wherein a rich mixture is drawn into an injector cylinder 6 and injected through a valve 15 into an air charge in the working cylinder 1, the rich mixture, formed in a carburetter 11 containing a main emulsified fuel nozzle 35, Fig. 4, supplied from a float chamber, is drawn in when the auxiliary piston 7 uncovers a port 10; the amount is controlled automatically by a barrel valve 37, actuated through a rack and pinion 55, 56, Fig. 7, by a spring controlled capsule 53 subject to the pressure on the engine-side of a throttle valve 50 in the air inlet pipe 23 leading to cylinder 1 which is regutated by a hand-lever 25. Alternatively, the valve 37 may be handregulated by a lever 12 and the throttle valve 50 regulated automatically by the device 53 subject to the pressure on the engine side of the valve 37. The rich mixture is injected into the cylinder 1 at the end of the suction or beginning of the compression stroke of piston 2, the resulting mixture being ignited, after compression, by a spark plug 17. The air inlet and exhaust valves of cylinder 1 are actuated by cams on the shaft 9 of the auxiliary piston 7 which is driven at half-engine speed. A conduit 43, Fig. 4, co-operating with a channel 44, supplies diluting air at intermediate openings of the valve 37, and a slow-running nozzle 40 is provided.
