Abstract

570,923. Regulating fuel. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Oct. 24, 1942, No. 14956. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1941. [Class 7 (vi)] Fuel injected into a spark &c, ignited engine by a pump is controlled relatively to the density of the air introduced into the working cylinder by providing in the air inlet passage 4 -between the throttle valve 5 and the engine a venturi nozzle 6, the entrance to and throat of which are respectively connected to opposite sides of a spring-pressed diaphragm &c. 7 secured to the fulcrum M of a floating lever 14 having one end pivoted to the control lever 3 of the pump and the other end connected by a. rod 15 and lever 16 to a governor 18 dependent upon engine speed and adapted to neutralize variations in the density of the air in the inlet pipe 4 due-to changes of engine. speed. In a modification, the governor actuates an obturator movable into and away from the mouth of the venturi 6 as the engine speed decreases or increases. As shown in Fig. 4, a supercharger 23 supplies air to the inlet pipe 4 whieh is branched, the venturi 6 being disposed in the branch while a valve 29 in the direct passage is opened with increasing or closed with decreasing engine speed by a cam lever 36 actuated by a piston 34 in a cylinder 35 exposed at its ends to the pressures before and behind a constriction 33 in the fuel pipe 32 supplied by an engine-driven pump 31. The mouth and throat of the venturi 6 are connected to opposite sides of a piston 25 in a closed cylinder 27. The adjusting devices may operate through servomotors.
