Abstract
493,252. Spray carburetters. ETABLISSEMENTS G. CLESSE. Jan. 17, 1938, No. 1474. Convention date, Jan. 21, 1937. [Class 7 (iii)] In a downdraught carburetter having a pressure regulator of the diaphragm type in the feed pipe leading to the fuel nozzle, the diaphragm is subjected to the action of a spring and the load of the spring is increased as the throttle is opened. In the carburetter shown, fuel is fed under pressure past a valve 24 to a nozzle 14 and is controlled by a diaphragm 21 connected to the valve. As the throttle valve 4 is opened a cam 43 rotates levers 42, 40 and permits a spring 32 to lower a piston 31 to increase the pressure of a spring 30 loading the diaphragm 21, until an adjustable screw 39 in the piston-rod 35 contacts with the lever 40. The nozzle 14 discharges into a tube 13 containing a Venturi 17 opening to the air inlet 2 and lateral ports 16 through which the mixture is discharged. During slow running, mixture is drawn through a notch and an orifice 6 in the throttle. The connection between the throttle and the spring means may be a lever and links. To obtain a richer mixture at starting, the throttle is opened slightly and the piston-rod 35 is depressed by a pivoted lever.
