Abstract

496,983. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX. Feb. 4, 1938, No. 3590. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1937. [Class 7 (iii)] The fuel supply is controlled by a single barometric or manometric device operated either by the pressure on the engine side of the carburetter throttle when the engine is running near its maximum power or by the pressure on the air inlet side upon a fall in the density of the air. A barometric or manometric capsule 16 in a chamber 17 controls a needle valve 6 regulating the fuel supply to a nozzle 9. The chamber 17 is in constant communication with the intake conduit on the engine side of the throttle 12 through a passage 19 containing a calibrated orifice 20, and as the engine speed increases the capsule increases the fuel supply. As the speed falls the capsule reduces the fuel supply until a passage 23 in the valve stem 15 registers with a channel 22 to establish communication between the chamber 17 and the intake conduit on the air inlet side of the throttle. The air is preferably supplied by a compressor 24, the inlet valve 25 of which is opened, as the density of the air falls, by a servomotor 27 controlled by a capsule 32 subject to the pressure in the outlet of the compressor. When the valve 25 has been fully opened, any further decrease in the density of the air is transmitted to the chamber 17 and reduces the fuel supply.
