458,659. Spray carburetters. SOC. ANON. SOLEX, 190, Avenue de Neuilly, Neuilly-sur-Seine, France. July 6, 1936, No. 18751. Convention date, Jan. 3. [Class 7 (iii)] In a floatless carburetter, particularly for aircraft-engines, fuel is furnished to a primary mixing chamber, in which exists a pressure practically independent of that in the inlet pipe beyond the throttle, by a pump delivering proportionately to the engine speed, the pump supplying a chamber communicating by a calibrated orifice with the feed reservoir and by an orifice which can be regulated, with the primary mixing chamber. The regulation may be manual or automatic dependent upon engine suction, temperature, barometric pressure, &c. The supply of fuel to a chamber 3 disposed in the air passage 1 below the throttle 2 and opening at one end through a passage 6 into the air inlet and at the other, through comparatively small openings 4, into a main Venturi 5, is maintained by an engine driven pump 7 communicating with a chamber 9 having an adjustable restricted overflow 12, 13, 14 back to the fuel reservoir 15, and is controlled by an orifice 10 and needle valve 11. The needle valve 11 is mounted on an adjustable capsule 16 operated by suction communicated by a pipe 19 to vary the fuel flow according to the depression in the passage 1 below the throttle 2. The air supply in the passage 6 may be heated by exhaust gases traversing a chamber 25. In a modification, the needle 11 is operated by a diaphragm exposed on one side to engine suction and on the other, through a liquid medium, to a closed gas container. The needle may also be operated by temperature, barometric pressure, &c. or combinations thereof.
