Class 7(6) [Also in Group XXXI] An engine braking arrangement comprises an exhaust brake 21 actuated by a suction operated means 16 connected by a pipe 15 to the intake pipe downstream of the throttle valve 13 therein. In Fig. 1 the pipe 15 leads to the throat of a venturi 12 and is extended at 28 to lead to the suction governor of a fuel injection pump 25. The suction operated means 16 is fastened to a bracket 17 on the exhaust pipe 11 and comprises a piston 18 connected to one end of the operating lever 20 of an exhaust brake valve 21, the other end being connected by a spring-loaded link 23 to the pump control lever 24. When the throttle valve 13 is closed the increased suction moves piston 18 to close the exhaust brake 21 and the link 23 simultaneously moves lever 24 to reduce the fuel supply. In Fig. 2 the suction pipe 15 is connected to the throat of a small venturi 30 in the intake pipe 10<SP>1</SP>, an aperture 31 in the throttle valve 13 leaving the venturi open when the throttle is closed.
