Abstract

653,586. Speed governors. LEYLAND MOTORS, Ltd., and WARING, G. J. Sept. 24, 1948, No. 25011. [Class 57] A governor for an I.C. engine employing fuel injection comprises a spring-pressed diaphragm 7, connected to the injection pump control member 6, and closing a chamber 8 connected by a pipe 9 to the induction pipe 2 on the engine side of the throttle valve 3, the chamber 8 being also connected to the induction pipe on the intake side of the throttle valve by a pipe 16 controlled by a valve 12 which is operated by the diaphragm with lost motion so as to be opened when the diaphragm moves beyond the idling position in a direction for reducing the fuel supply. The pipe 9 communicates with a Pitot tube 10, and the pipe 16 communicates with a second Pitot tube 17. The arrangement prevents excessive speed fluctuations at idling speed without affecting the governor operation at full load speed. Specifications 500,365 and 575,146, [Group XXVIII], are referred to.
